I fixed it. I think it's totally appropriate now. 

Can you also do the same treatment to the car? We don't know how it identifies, after all.

PS unfortunately, I have to say, as emphatically as I can: I don't give a flying fuck what someone does or feels with regards to sexuality. I'm happy if they're happy. Are you gay? Fantastic. Are you trans? Good for you! Are you whatever makes you feel good? Fist bump! But I can't stand all this noise. And, because I really don't care about appearances, I understand this paragraph may offend some - if that's the case, I'm sincerely sorry.

Arthur Clarke did that, and -while I absolutely love some of his work- his books are probably the most dry in the world of sci Fi, his heroes being totally wooden and unable to relate to. 

There's such a thing as suspension of disbelief in every kind of fiction. 

Is PK Dick realistic? That's laughable. Is he someone I wish I could kiss the shoes of? Absolutely.

and it's now saying 640KB in the Diag Test, though testing upper RAM only seems to test Bank 07, skipping the rest. Then when I test Lower RAM, it reverts to telling me I only have 64KB again, removing the option to test Upper RAM!

Can you take a picture of the open CPC with the board installed?
And the results of the upper RAM test?

Since the Amsdiag saw the right amount of 640K at least once I would expect that there is an issue with the RAM IC. Either it's really malfunctioning or (more likely) a loose connection. Is the IC socketed or soldered?
