UniDOS and M4

Hi There

I am trying to use UniDOS together with the M4 device, but with no luck. 

Somehow UniDOS cannot see the dosnode for the M4 device!

I have put my UniDOS in rom 5 and the M4 dosnode in rom 13...

Have someone had any luck with this configuration?

Hello,

I had the same problem with you, I tried a lot of position for UniDOS rom and M4 DOS nodes rom without success... In my case M4 rom is in rom 5.

Each time I got this error message "UniDOS ..M4 Board wrong config !"

If I disable M4 rom and reboot, I can see the nodes for UniDOS.
As you can see the M4 DOS node is present but inactive :

And I found the solution : just set the position of the M4 rom to the same location as the M4 DOS node :

This time everything is ok !
You have access to all the features of UniDOS, as well as all the RSX of the M4 Board.
And this time, M4 rom is active and M4 DOS node appears invisible :

According to the UniDOS installation instructions:

in order to avoid conflicts, the M4 Board built-in ROM must be moved to a slot greater than 16 so that it is no longer initialized by the system (but it will still be used internally by UniDOS).

I'm not near my CPC to check my exact configuration but following the instructions worked fine for me.

Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately I tried and that didn't work.
If I place the M4 Board built-in rom in a position between 16 and 31, the M4 Board does not initialize when the CPC starts and is therefore not available.
(same case for the M4 Board built-in rom in position 127 as suggested in the documentation).

M4 DOS node is available, but without M4 Board features and RSX :



And if I place the M4 Board rom in a position between 1 and 15 (other than the Unidos M4 node) I find the same error when starting the CPC: "UniDOS ..M4 Board wrong config!"

I think that if you want to use UniDOS then M4's own commands are not available anymore.
At least that is implied by the 'no longer initialized by the system' statement.

But if you found a way to have them both working then that's even better

Yes but in this last case there's no interest, because you loose everything from M4 Board : no M4 RSX, no M4 Wifi, no M4 RTC...
Maybe only M4 SD mass storage ?

Well, actually not.

UniDOS M4 support comes with a replacement for M4 original ROM RSX.
You may want to check UniDOS M4 DOS node documentation.

The RSX are not the exact equivalent to to ones from M4 ROM original ROM, but they provide the same features (and even more). If you find something which is missing to you, let me know and it might be added in the next M4 node version.

Any case, you shall not leave M4 internal ROM accessible to the system when using UniDOS.
Even if it appears to work in some ways, it will definitely not.

As stated in the installation instructions, leaving M4 built-in ROM at slot 127 is actually the way to go.
