Title: Wanting - a File Editor that can allow me to edit a ROM File (hex)
Post by: Audronic on 10:23, 18 April 23
Hi All

I am looking for a File Editor that can allow me to edit a ROM File (hex)

Is there a stand alone Program or a Suitable Rom that I can use ?

Thanks

I am trying to change The RSX Name of " Roman2" from  "ROM" to "ROM2" as it now conflicts with the ULIFAC.

Thanks

Do it in Windows. Take e.g. HxD (free Hex-Editor), load the Rom file into it and change the name, write it back. But you should take a name with the same length, because it's hard coded. Otherwise you create an address conflict.

You can edit any ROM with the ROManager 2.43 for FutureOS.  :)

ROManager does exist as 16 KB ROM too. And you won't need romam any longer.  ;) :)

Thanks to ALL who offered suggestions

But after 3 Days, Trying I have not been successful.

I will provide the Roman2 Rom in the chance that somebody would be able to help

The Original Commands are To activate The ROM either |ROM  or |ROMAN
If it is possible to Get the commands to Be " |ROM2 AND |ROMAN

Thanks

It's not possible to extend the RSX to 4 letters without relocation of the addresses.
The RSX is stored in the code with "RO","M"+&80.
You need to find a 3 letter name and store it in the same way "??","?"+&80

@HAL6128

Ok Thanks for That

Perhaps Just Make it "RAY" so it does not conflict with "ROM"

Thats all I can think of to get around the concern

So the Commands would Be " |ROMAN " and |RAY"

If That could be done That would be Great

Thanks for looking into it

Thanks

Ok, then I did that for you using ROManager
- You get the ROM2 command
- You get the RAY command

Have fun!

@GUNHED (TFM)

Thanks for that.
I will test it over the next 2 days and see how it works

I tried to find your ROManager on your site but was not able to find it.

Would it be possible to send me a copy or a link to it Please

Thanks for all your work on this project

There's also another alternative to use ROManager 2.0 : it's to use the floppy disc in file version.
The DSK version can be used as desired:

The big advantage is that it doesn't occupy any slot of a romboard.
And no more conflicts with a ULIfAC or USIfAC II card.

But the result is 100% identical. 😉

Just run the program with run"DISC

Ok Thanks for the thought

I have a working Rom that will suffice.

But a good Idea anyway

I tried to find your ROManager on your site but was not able to find it.

You can go to www.futureos.de (see my signature), then you click at 'Downloads' at the left side. Now scroll down you'll find it.  :) But I guess your problem is solved anyway.  :) :) :)
