Title: 40009 ROM Replacement
Post by: pledg on 12:40, 06 January 20

Hi,

Some advice required please.

I'm repairing a CPC464. (see other post).

I have a TL866II plus eeprom programmer.

I think the board I'm working on may have a damaged ROM chip, I'm getting garbled screens on start-up (see other post).

If I swap this ROM with another I have from a donor board I get no screen output at all.

I take this to mean that the existing ROM is corrupted in some way and the ROM from the donor board is totally dead.

If I read these chips with the TL866II this seems to confirm this. The donor ROM reads as blank but the other loads data into the programmer.

Is it a simple task to write the OS and Basic to a new eeprom and install?

I have downloaded the os_basic_1.01 file from another post.

Any tips appreciated!

Thanks.

Yes, but make sure the file you have is both the Firmware AND Basic (32K). There are many versions online with the two halves split.

Thanks for the link.

Waiting for some eeproms but as soon as they arrive I'll get going and report back.

Cheers

Just to confirm this file is 464 ready and no amendments required.
