Title: Amstrad 464 Plus
Post by: jm8343 on 15:18, 15 September 20
Hi Guys,

Looking for some advice on this old Amstrad 464 Plus.
I have taken it from our attic after many years to see if it works.
Honestly I don't remember much about it other than it just stopped working one day and was put away.
I would like to try get it working again so have removed the cover for a quick look and pic attached.
What you see is as much as it does and I am far from having any kind of tech knowledge so looking for advice on what the problem is and parts required and where to buy them.
I am thinking the problem is something to do with the 40464 and zener diode next to it because of the photos.
Thank you for any advice you might have to offer not looking to send for repair would like to try it myself.

On this picture, you can see the typical screen of the dead RAM.
You just need a pair of KM41464 or equivalent (and socket).

It's definitely not going to beep when it's showing that screen, BASIC hasn't loaded.

No bleeps nothing only thing that looked out of place to me was that black stuff near the chip and that diode.
One leg of the diode near the black looks like it is burned out of the solder.
Nothing crazy happened with the machine just one day it did not load any games and it was put away.
I have not done anything to it yet and it was never opened before me taking the cover off.
Looking around the internet not much about where to buy components other than china.
I am sure it will awaken memories if I can get it working but not right now.

Thanks again

The black gunk doesn't look like a problem and the diode looks fine too. It's most likely just bad RAM.

For 2.45 each plus postage! He can keep them, you can get them for a lot less, even without resorting to China:  https://www.ebay.de/itm/4x-D41464C-10-RAM-Amstrad-CPC-6128-PLUS-AMIGA-ZX-Spectrum-2A-2B-3/233656921718
