Title: CPC 464 - Will not boot
Post by: antpant7 on 17:27, 07 June 20
Hello, I have recently purchased a CPC 464 from Ebay. When I turn on the 464 I am getting a pink garbled screen with low volume noise from the speaker.

Pressing the DEL doesn't produce a Beep.

I have am using a 5v 3amp power supply (3rd party).
The board revision is MC0044d

Hoping someone may have experienced the same thing and found a solution.

Thanks.

Antony Myers.

Hi and welcome to the forum,

You've defintely got a 464 with a failed RAM chip. You need to find out which chip has failed and swap it out. If that's beyond your ability, then let us know.

Hello Bryce, thanks for the warm welcome to the group.

I have piggy backed some km4164b ram that I had spare from repairing a C64.

Managed to get the CPC464 to boot, i will now solder in an IC Socket and replace the km4164

Thanks a million for your quick and accurate diagnostic  ;)

Next job for me is to strip down the tape unit and give it a good clean and re-grease .

Will post a pic of the finished results when its done !!

Congrats. That was a quick repair, but if you've already swapped RAM on a C64, then you probably know what you're doing (we won't talk about the fact that the C64 got fixed first or your retro computer tastes  :) ).
