I have the following problem:
I have a GOTEC installed as drive A:. I have a Multiface-II cart installed. I wish to save games, but the standard .dsk size is prohibitive - i.e. a blank disc is 178k, allowing for only 1 save game (memory state dump) of 128k.
What can I do to my Amstrad CPC 6128, hardware mod, ROM replacement, or otherwise, to give me the ability to access larger disc capacities, noting that it will be a Multiface-II cart than is saving data.

Set the Gotek as drive B instead and when you're saving the game out, save it as B:game
You lose a couple of characters out of the file name, but that was always the work around back in the day.
Also make sure you have ParaDOS or similar loaded, otherwise your 3.5" Gotek will still only be picked up as 178k with AMSDOS alone.

This may not be directly related to your query, but if you know that the game only uses the first 64K of RAM, you can select the 'clear' option to clear the additional 64K of RAM, and only the first 64K of RAM will be saved to disc, so you can fit more save games on to one disc.

ParaDOS - a replacement for AMSDOS that allows for larger disk sizes. How do I get/use/install ParaDOS? I'm seeing things like ROMBoxes mentioned. Do I have to burn my own ParaDOS chip?
Info or pointers to info will be appreciated. I'm not scared of electronics, soldering, replacement ROMs, etc. But I know little of the best way of doing things on the Amstrad, so a "beginners guide to using ParaDOS" in the context of modern times would be great.
The absolute easiest way is to just replace the amsdos rom on the motherboard with an eprom containing parados.
Another easy way - without soldering - is to get a ROM expansion and load ParaDOS (or VaraDOS or X-DDOS ... any other DOS) into a ROM slot. This can be done very easy by software.
As ROM box I would suggest the following products (alphabetically sorted): Flash-Gordon, M4, MegaFlash, Symbiface III, X-MEM.

Advantage: You can use lots of cool ROMs more! ;D ;D ;D
I'd go the ROM expansion route. They tend to be more cost effective in the long run and can add in multiple ROMs.
I'd also recommend the M4 board from
@Duke although they may be on back order due to component shortage.
What one gets for his money... the M4 can't be beat. More than 1000 units sold - nothing more needs to be told. :)
