Title: Press PLAY then any key: problem with CPC 6128
Post by: theherolt on 11:17, 06 September 18
Hi I just recently bought Amstrad CPC 6128, seller said to me that CD drive doesn't work. I changed belts, checked all the wires, all seems fine, but the problem is that computer can't even see the drive, I try to run CAT but it showing PRESS PLAY then any key, and its same with everything I try to run, and there's no difference or drive is connected or not, it can't detect anything

Hi Theherolt,
Your 6128 has a damaged AMDOS ROM (ROM 7). You'll need to have it changed.

You can't buy it. You will have to remove the old ROM, install a socket, then buy a 16K EPROM and flash it with the correct firmware (available on the CPCWiki). If you can't do this yourself, you can send the PCB to me for repair, if you like.

Bryce.

Despite the Lithuanian flag, my bets are that you are in the uk :)
