Following a legal dispute with Digital Research, Vortex switched to supplying only patches for CP/M 3.0. The X-Drive came with a system disc containing files called XPATCH.COM and XPATCH30.COM which patched Amstrad's CP/M 2.2 or 3.0, so that adding support for the 80-track Vortex disc drives format. The system disc itself can be used in CP/Mmodified to boot CPM 2.2 or 3.0.

There is a patch for CP/M 2.2, enabling which adds support for the Vortex WD20 hard disc driveto CP/M 2.2. There was no patch released for CP/M 3.0.
