I'm actually only moderating this thread and not locking it because some things needed to be said...

Once the dust settles, will this thread be edited because these arguments are not worth preserving?

The *worst* that could happen is for the thread to be moved to the Hall of Shame...

Jesus, guys! We're only a small community and we have to fight with one another like school children in the playground? We're supposed to be fecking adults! This is why we're such a small community, my "tag-line" is extremely valid and I've stopped any form of "creative output" on this platform.

Watch out for my first "demo" on VCS, however; I will get that fecking raster line to move... I WILL! (I hope... one day!)

("creative output" is used here in its loosest possible term)

With regard to keeping people stoked and producing great games for the Amstrad still. I just had a look at the demo of 'Cosmic Prison Commando' for the first time , and I have to say that this project looks absolutely amazing , I do hope the game plays as well it looks , I will definitely pay to get a copy of this when it comes to fruition..?

Bryce

Why is there a fight? I only see facts:

1. TFM is sensitive when it comes to criticism. (I can live with that, we're all different and none of us perfect).
2. If you write software expect it to be criticised.
3. Some people will like your product and some people won't.
4. If you ask for feedback don't expect it always to be good.
5. Some people will take advantage of TFMs sensitivity and provoke it.

Bryce.

Eh? That's my game.  But... demo?   Where's that?   I thought I deleted all traces of the old 2008 demo as it doesn't reflect how the game was changed.  But you may it sound like you haven't played any actual gameplay so I wonder what kind of demo this was.   ???

oh yeah I remember that 'demo' now.  I didn't make it, someone else did but it was nice to see my graphics appearing in an actual CPC runnable file even if not playable.   The game's changed a lot since then.  Posts on my tumblr tagged with 'cosmic prison commando' here Carnivac show it these days.  I want to redo those tiles yet again though as I want to go for something a bit more alien and otherworldly and have been looking at a lot of european sci-fi/fantasy artists such as Moebius, Roger Dean and others for inspiration.  My signature image here shows some of it too, particularly the sprites which have been improved since that 'demo'.

Anyways sorry for going off-topic.  Resume whatever was going on before.  But with less bickering. :P

EDIT: heh, you can tell I didn't make the 'demo'.  I would never refer to myself as 'very talented' like it says in the intro screen.

Ok, I calmed down...

The list of my failures is endless and to big for one post.

However, there will be always people who abuse my hypersensitivity towards stepping on my babies. And if this is the way if happens... ok, I hope at least you all had your fun.

Basically, what Bryce said.

I've just read the thread for the first time and to me it feels like its bordering on bullying: we know how TFM reacts to criticism from the ROM competition result so why provoke him to this point? He's obviously proud of his work, he's always been friendly and more than helpful when I've spoken to him, so does he deserve being wound up like this whether on not you agree with the score?

I know Gryzor likes a good argument and is very good at getting his points across, and back them up with facts when needed, but maybe its not a good thing when you know the other person will view it as an attack on them?

Also, I don't think there's a problem being sensitive, it's just a shame others can't respect that's how you are.

Anyway, say what you want in response, I won't care, I am going to play with my new Toys     Christmas has come early!

Wait... what? You... placed a ZX81 next to a 664? The mind boggles... (ooh, how nice stuff! What's in the box in front of the CPC box?And what is the CF for?)

I'll gladly answer your question; I don't actually think anyone actively provoked anything; the fact that someone may be hyper-sensitive doesn't mean we can't air our opinions. Point in fact, it took me a few days to look at the score and post my opinion; it's not like I had any really active interest in it.

Lots of people are sensitive; and yet we talk. TFM talks, and often hurts others even pointlessly -I'd say, one reason less to avoid airing our opinions.

Back to watching The Shield now...

Quite, I just felt it could have been handled a little more subtlety given it seems like a re-run of the rom competition?

Ah mate, sorry to hijack the thread but I am pretty excited, the ZX81 is from the Bluesbrothers in mint condition, factory fresh, has been hotrodded by TheCorfiot who fitted it with 32k of internal memory and a hi-resolution mod but it looks absolutely stock from the outside (a new thing they're offering if anyone else wants one). Behind it is the ZXPand to allow me to load the games off an SD card and works in perfect conjunction with the mods. The TheCorfiot also upgraded the Atari 800XE I bought from Bryce with the 1MB upgrade from Lotharek and I also bought the Side2 (from Lotharek) at the same time to load games etc off the CF card. I also bought the CPC 664 off BluesBrothers and had TheCorfiot fit it with the AMSDOS/Parados ROM. He's fitted a switch on the PCB using glue that can be wiped off with IPA if the next owner wants to convert it back to how it was originally that sticks out the printer port so not to damage the case. In the white box are the original chips from the 664 and XE and a DivIDE for my Spectrum+2... and next to that is an S-video cable for the XE  TheCorfiot made for me. It's quite possible I will never see sunlight again

Also I feel like a fully fledged CPC'er now I own a 664, it's like a badge of honour

To be fair, I don't think there were a lot first person shooters produced those past 10 years on CPC...

Many scrolling based shooters, most of them horizontal...

but a good old 8bit FPS... can't remember any since the ones with lightgun on GX4000 or even OpThunderbolt...
were there others recently ?

Space gun ?

Anyway please all of you : calm down.

I recognise that 664... ;-)

BluesBrothers didn't want to keep it then?

I think he did at first but it was love at first sight, and as you wanted to sell them altogether I had to persuade whoever bought it to sell it to me, sorry  :-[ I hope you're not mad?

Not at all, glad it went to a good home.

That's why I tried to sell as much as I could on the wiki - I'd much rather they go to active sceners and be cherished than sold for crazy prices on eBay to whoever just has the biggest wallet :-)

Supporting the community is more important to me than profiteering!

That 664 is really sweet and the Atari is nice too. Dunno much about ZX, but it's looking neat too.  :)

Thanks TFM  ;D

It is the true definition of New Old Stock, the PSU hasn't ever been wired up. I had to wire my first plug in 10 years (fortunately Bryce did the last one for the Atari :)) and then I had to go to hardware shop to buy a 5A fuse. I'm not sure if I am legally allowed to do that in the EU anymore or if it needs to be done by a trained electrictian. Seemed to be a 50/50 chance I'd wire it the right way anyway as there wasn't a long wire to get to the top pin...

TFM

5 A... that can be rough...

Sykobee (Briggsy)

Ah yes, the 80s, when home electrical goods came without plugs and wiring plugs was an essential home skill!

The ZX80/81 were tiny weren't they! Basic, but there's some clever software out there.

The good thing about the 664 is that it has the good old clunky keyboard that has a great feel, and the best CPC colour scheme.
