Um... guys? Am I the only one who noticed the new wiki appearance?

Grim

Noticed that yesterday and... well, I don't like it very much (mostly because the contrast on the content is too low with text in black on a blue background and the gradients are too strong). Anyway... I will give it a try for a few days, maybe it's just that I'm not used to it yet (old habits die hard :)

Gryzor

Strong gradients? Low contrast? Are we seeing different things? Can you post a screenshot???

ukmarkh

It seems alright to me, the old look was better though... still I'm sure we'll all get used to it.

fano

Noticed too, color set is ok but i have problems because it is too wide for my 1024*768 resolution

Well, sure I have noticed the new appearance! I think that getting used to a new appearance always takes some time, so I decided to give it a try. But I most say that I noticed the same problem as Grim and also much of the content was made with a white background in mind. That is of course not the new "skins" fault - creators of images (sometimes me  :D ) forget to put in transparency in images etc. I am a bit ambivalent on this issue because I somehow liked the old look (me being conservative  ;) maybe) but I have also sometimes wished for a more "modern" look of the WIKI.

Well perhaps a different skin, where the "content area" has a white background. Anyway I really appreciate new initiatives ... ... It's to hot here for thinking a clear thought ... hmm more time! ...

Thanks for the comments, guys, and keep them coming! After all, I'm not doing this for myself :D

@ukmarkh: the old one, better? Wow. I was sick and tired of it since the dawn of time... :) The thing is, every wiki looks the same (including wikipedia), and I wanted to make it a bit distinct... I can, of course, bring the older, default skin back if you want, and you'll be able to choose it from your prefs. Oh, also, just for you, I installed a skin witht he menu on top, saves a bit of space. Care to try it out and tell me what you think?

@fano: hmmm... my bad. I should have checked before I tweaked it to stretch it - there is a 26.65% of visitors in the last month who use 1024 or 800 (netbooks presumably?), and that's quite a lot, so I'll narrow it again. Of course this means that the rest will have wasted space, so maybe I'll make a narrow and a wide version instead. Why do you use 1024 anyhow? By the way, what is a suitable width for a 1024 resolution? 1010 pixels maybe?

@Ygdrazil/Grim: I can tweak the colors to make the background lighter, although I really like this shade of blue and I think there's more than enough contrast. Maybe it's an eye thing? As for the images, I'm not quite sure what you mean? What transparency?

Have a great day mates :)

I like the new appearance, but there is a little problem :

All the links has the same colour.

The links to a new page that not exit, I prefer like before "in red".

All the rest is OK for me.

CPCLER

I think the new look is allright..

But I miss the upload stuff button.

Hmmm... Yes upload file option isn't there anymore.

Also I am missing the small counter in the bottom of pages that shows how many times a page has been viewed - I find this option very usefull as to how popular a page is.

*Upload button: sorry guys, I forgot to add it. It's there again, expect a redesign of Sidebar on CPCManiaco's advice!

*Visits counter: working on it, thanks for noticing!

*new link color: hmmm there seems to be a bug in parsing the xml, I've already set it to red but it appears blue until you visit it... I'm looking into it...

@fano: is the new width ok for you?

Gryzor

Page counter fixed... I *really* don't know why it didn't work before, the variable was there all along! :D

RamRom

Do you think you could put a link to the forum in the side menu? I always seem to have to go back to the main page to find the forum link there. Yes, I know I could put a use a bookmark... but it just seems that a forum link should be there.

@fano: ok, good to know. How are the rest of you feeling about the narrow version?

@RamRom: but it's there!!! Last link on the sidebar :) What's more, it's also right there in the first sentence of the content (the introduction), in bold lettering :D

Gryzor

Ok, please let me know how it works for you: I turned the width to relative instead of absolute, don't know why I didn't think of it before!

Also: I fixed the red new links, check the first two links at http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Emulators.

Also: fixed the toolbox section (at the bottom of each page, "what links here" etc), was somewhat buggy before. Please do test and let me know!

Hi Gryzor.

I think the new appearance looks nice, but it has caused a bit of a problem.

On this page,
http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/ACU_Type_Ins
on my 1280x800 laptop, the last few columns of magazine links are not visible.
If I hide my bookmarks sidebar in firefox, the cpcwiki layout stretches, and the magazine links then become visible.
Is this something worth looking into?

A similar problem happens on the individual pages for each magazine.
http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/ACU_April_1985_-_Type-ins
The right-hand column of images under each type-in is cut-off.

Gryzor

It only happens in those pages? If so, maybe it's not worth fixing.

The reason this happens is that the system reads your screen resolution and sets the wiki's width at 90% of it. So, if you've got a very wide page, and if your sidebar is on, then some of it will not be visible (because it'll be something like wiki+sidebar=90+20=110%). If it happens a lot with FF then I should reduce the width to, say, 80%, but if it's only those pages maybe it's not worth it to waste the space for most of the pages just to fix these few...

Could you confirm?

Cheers
Themis

Now looks veru well for me, and the red links is OK, too.

Only a little correction on the side bar.

The first option now in Literature is Magazines/Fanzines is not in the correct alphabetic order, now the third position is OK, and only put Magazines because now there is another page for the Fancines only.

The rest is OK for me.

Thank you, Gryzor.

I've changed the code on this page
http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/ACU_Type_Ins
to make the page narrower.

I'll do something similar to each issue's page as well.
So it should be ok.

@CPCManiaco: entries corrected, you have an eye for detail :D

@ervin: thanks for your efforts, I think this is the best way for everyone...

I am adding a version of FCKEditor again as I'm typing this, please do check it out in a while. Hopefully it'll cause no problems...

[EDIT]FCKEditor installed and running. You may have to uncheck "Disable Rich Text Editor" in your Preferences to see it. I haven't made it default, so even then, when you edit an article you'll actually have to click on "Rich Text Editor". Better? :)

Cpcmaniaco

Thanks Gryzor.

I found some spam on the CPCwiki, for exemple here :

http://cpcwiki.eu/gallery/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pos=0

I am looking your CPC 664 and on the comments of the picture there are many spam.

Probably is better only see the pictures without comments, and finish the spam.

look at this, Gryzor.

Gryzor

Ah crap, indeed. When I was fixing the spam issue I concentraded on the wiki itself, but didn't lock the gallery... I'll delete the comments, I wonder how many more... Will try to fix it once and for all.

Cpcmaniaco

Thanks.

How many work for you, always.
