I think the last few minutes of the demo steal the show! All done using 64k...

I don't think that this is the best demo ever made but it's indeed something fresh for the c64.
This computer doesn't impress me any more... It has some very good and technically amazing productions but the rest are the same effects over and over again.
The Prodigy part is very good. Very good sample quallity and lot's of animation on the screen at the same time.
I'm assuming that everything is being streamed of the disk, not only the sample.
If the animations are preloaded in the memory and being uncompressed / played back  in real time, then hells to the yes!

Like many C64 demo it's NOT a 64K demo
It is not a single CPU demo either
Do not forget what the  floppy  of the C64 is and can do ;)
Anyway it's a good demo with cool stuff and new technics

Peu importe que ce soit la plus belle démo, l'essentiel étant que ce soit une belle démo (les visages sont un régal pour les yeux), certains auteurs ont un sens artistique développé et c'est bien de nous en faire profiter.
Merci pour ce partage.  :)

A lot of good demos in this years X again. I am not even sure which one is my favorite (I really have to rewatch and I wish I could rewatch in real C64 which I don't have anymore with me. Some things break on emulator and Windows 10 maybe breaks the sound of Winvice, don't know why). Everyone of them is quite good, but with something missing, a part or effect or scroller here making good parts and ok parts, to make any of them my favorite compared to some C64 classics. But I am amazed by how many top notch demos and many interesting effects, great music and tons of graphics in one demoparty. C64 even scares me (you must be top notch to compete and now maybe they have done everything, it's hard to do something novel even though they sort of do every next year), I see again things that I am not sure anymore how they do even if I kinda programmed in C64 before and have a newbie's idea of the hardware.

I've just run it with 64KB RAM, one 1541 disk drive and one CPU with Vice  emulator.  This year shows several very good demos for C64.  I'm also impressed by

https://youtu.be/2qZlA7g8Ia8 (HIMAN 2016 MONUMENTUM).  So Wonderland XIII is only one of the best.  IMHO Batman Forever is also one of the best forever.  :)

I'm setting my stock C64 up tonight, and will run demo to see...

Duke

No Batman killers imho. :) - But really good demos for sure.

1541 drive means an additionnal 6502 CPU and extra-ram (ok, it's small)

The 6502 is as powerfull as the main 6510 and runs at the same speed.

C64 demomakers use it as a coprocessor since a loooooooong time, not only to read disk ;)

Who cares, this is tech from thirty years ago, was an add on to the machine, it's not cheating, just testament to how well designed and thought out the machine is.

I did not said that is cheating.
I said that you were wrong in trying to minimize the c64 power like you did in the first post
In addition to that the 64k limitation is not really a limitation for a trackmo.

We will have to agree to disagree as the conversation is pointless. The reality is that this demo runs on a C64 stock machine, and that should be amazing enough.

I put the challenge out there for a CPC with 64K to do the same... Using stock CPC available hardware.

Hahahaha  ;D :picard2:

Right from the subject title this conversation was going to be "pointless".

There will never be "the best demo ever". DemoIzArt. :-) There is never an objective point of view if it comes to art, it's always a subjective estimate. Therefore this kind of discussion will always be pointless.

I think...

arnoldemu

it is a really nice demo. C64 always has lots of active teams pushing each other and coming out with nice multi-screen trackmo like demos.

Would I like to see similar nice effects on cpc. Yes!

Over the past few years CPC demos have got better and the presentation and flow has improved.

In the past I think there have been a lot of technically great demos but maybe they were more of a one-screen demo than a long presentation like this.

It's amazing the level on c64 at the X party. They make you want to switch platform :)

Btw, this scrolltext reminds me of something (7:25) ...

Go and wash your mouth out with soap for that comment! Would you say things like that in front of your mother!? :D

Hahaha, this gets funnier and funnier.

What makes me 'close minded' ???

Nowhere did I say I did not like the demo, or say anything at all about the demo or even mention the CPC for comparison.

I was laughing at your 15 year old schoolboy challenge...

(I have even had this demo running on one of my C64's, not my personal favorite but then there are so many good demos out there).

Yep, maybe they try to enhance this kind of effect.. with style ;)

Or this one with more zooming.

And this was in the Amstrad demos category becauuuuuse....?

ukmarkh

Nobody would have read it outside of the 'Amstrad' category, by the sites very nature and name, isn't everyone biased towards one machine  ::)

By posting, I one day hope that the CPC will be able to do something similar, push the creative juices of the CPC community even further.

Nothing wrong with good healthy competition :-)

So... basically definitely off-topic (wrong sub-forum) and borderline trolling.

ukmarkh

If that's what you want to label it, but wasn't my intention. Just delete or move it, I don't want any trouble.

i'm not aware of that happening particularly often, in fact i can only think of one example off the top of my head where i'm sure of what's being done, X'2004 entry Panta Rhei. Did you have any other examples in mind...?
