Tired of people bashing at CPC games it's time to talk about real rubbish.

- Mutant Camels is terrible on c64 (while very well done on Atari XL)

Definitely. It was my favourite game on the 800XL but just terrible on the C64.

Robocop 2. What were they thinking?

TFM

Good example: terrible animation, terrible sound. Way better on CPC.  :)

I find the Spectrum version of RoboCop 2 to be the best one out of the three 8-bitters if I'm honest even if it's lacking in colour.  The CPC version is Plus only and not actually all that fun to play I find.  The stupid jumping bits are far too infuriating.  At least the Spectrum version lets me kill some bad guys before having annoying jumping (I'll still never understand why some RoboCop games even haaaave jumping.  Mine frickin' ain't.  RoboCop is not a jumper... )

But yeah that C64 version is just bizarre...

Excellent, lol with the spider  :P

TFM

Good point, Robocop is not made to jump. Walking stairs is ok, but jumping? No! ;-)

for me the only thing the C64 had over the CPC was the sound chip.

No, what about the vivid colours, the superior keyboard, the RGB output and it's own screen... Oh wait, they were all CPC advantages too :)

Bryce.

Devilmarkus

Didn't the C64 only have a GB output? Grey-Brown?

Oh wait... RGB is right: Really Grey Brown

How about Chase HQ? CPC version at 5:40, c64 crappiness begins at around the 8-min point. Even the music is crap!

Token

Indeed... Reaaaally poor version on the C64 :)

Nice speccy version.

There were 2 versions. The US one which isn't good, then there is the UK version which is fantastic
and includes the 2 player mode.

Actually not a bad game, but unplayable slow on c64:

The CPC version proves the power of the Z80!

Also Burnin Rubber looks like a basic game:

and freescape was originally  developed using CPCs

Freescape - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I was never a fan of Freescape (or most early 3D graphics) but I found it somewhat interesting at the time and the fact the CPC was used to develop it is really cool.

The Freescape engine is awesome for its time!

There's no way you could do a shooter with it, but the engine was best in the puzzle/adventure genre.

I remember reading an article where one of the Realtime Games guys (i.e. those that did Starglider and Carrier Command) stated that they could speed it up still. I wish they'd been given such an assignment.

I never got deep in Freescape games, but when AA gave a demo of Total Eclipse on its cover tape, I remember being all 'wha... wow... what is this?!!".

Oh yeah I had that.  Like I said before I found it somewhat interesting at first but I far preferred detailed and smoother moving 2D stuff to plain-looking, sparse and sluggish 3D.  Still, it's all a notable part of computer graphics history.
