In time the hardware will degrade to the point it is unrecoverable, so an idea all the emulator teams, all the databases get together and create a giant all in one emulator with everything that is available for the CPC/PCWs?

TFM

Yes, that exists already. It's called... JavaCPC  :)

dcdrac

there will come a point when the parts are not made anymore to fix a cpc, so maybe an alliance could be formed of all those wanting to keep it alive some how

Trebmint

We will all have molecular printers built into our phones by then, so we can just holographically mould a new set of parts

AMSDOS

It will need to emulate "KL NEW FRAME FLY (&BCD7)" in the Event it's pointing at something which Disables Interrupts, extra memory cannot be accessed.

I'm not sure how one emulates that sort of crash  :(
* Using the old Amstrad Languages :D * And create my own ;)
* Incorporating the Firmware :P
* I also like to problem solve code in BASIC :)   * And type-in Type-Ins! :D

Whatchu talkin' bout?  My CPC will outlive even my great-great-great-grandchildren.  Yep.  Hm.  I haven't even got a kid yet, so no idea why I'm now imaginary future generations of my offspring.    But point is, my lil 464 is a tough ol' thing.   8)

x-mem, playcity and a flux capacitor!  ;D

"How long does it take to load that game from tape?"
"I started it loading today and it finished yesterday it was that quick"

The power of flux capacitors on tape loading  :laugh:

C64 users would need one of those for their slow disc drive

They'd probably want a one in a shade of brown though. :)

In fact, my C64 died years ago. Before that, both my 1541 drives were not working well, or the cable had problem. And also the transfer cable from PC couldn't work anymore. And SDHC doesn't exist for the C64, and I think another solution SD2IC something, I don't know how well it works with fastloaders. Antitec bought one of these and he told me he has problem running some of the stuff. The good machines (C64/Amiga) with their own special disk drives, it's a pain in the ass to transfer stuff, and maybe oneday it will be a real problem.

But the CPC, my 3 CPCs are still alive, still have the problem with rubber band, original drive not working, can maybe easilly fixed, but I resorted to the SDHC solution, also a 3.5" drive does it. Which could dissapear in the future though.

Maybe the future will be running on FPGAs. Not like the real thing, but..

There are several SDHC solutions for the C64 - 1541-III, MMC2IEC, SD2IEC, 1541 Ultimate and µIEC. I use a µIEC installed internally on mine ( uIEC/SD - RETRO Innovations ). It works like a dream and even auto-detects JiffyDOS and speedloads if present.

Just a question: Do you think we can currently remanufacture a CPC cheaply and above 100% identical with the current technology?
The main problem I think is the screen because no current screen does 50Hz and the "screen matrix" does not exist ...
Gate Array and is can not be that easy to replicate?
Same question for the CPC +

Bryce

Isn't that what projects like the FPGA-CPC does? (Sorry Ralf, can't remember exactly what you call the project at the moment).

Good to know. I am wondering which one of these had my friend Antitec?
Is the mIEC working with demos that use their own drive loaders?
Does it need soldering or just plug in and play?

Bryce

I bought the minimal PCB version because I soldered it inside the C64, there are kits for external connection that don't need soldering and even some modders that sell finished, cased versions like this: Commodore 64/64C/128 1541 Disk Drive Emulation SD2IEC SD Card Reader | eBay

I don't usually watch many demos, so I have only really used it for standard C64 brownware software.
